Kelly Olynyk Undergoes Right Shoulder Surgery

BOSTON – The Boston Celtics announced today that Kelly Olynyk yesterday underwent a successful right shoulder arthroscopy for recurrent subluxations. He will begin an immediate rehabilitation program and the time frame for his return to basketball activities has not yet been determined.

Olynyk, who completed his third year with the team, averaged 10.0 points, including shooting 40.5 percent from beyond the arc, 4.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 20.2 minutes per game during the 2015-16 regular season.

The 7’0” forward/center recorded a season-high 28 points on 11-21 (.524) shooting from the field, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block on December 11, 2015 against the Golden State Warriors.

Hornets' Walker undergoes successful knee surgery

Charlotte Hornets guard Kemba Walkerunderwent successful surgery today to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. The procedure was completed by Hornets Team Physician Dr. Marcus Cook at Novant Orthopedic Hospital in Charlotte. Walker is expected to resume basketball activities in early July.

The 6-1 Walker finished second in NBA Most Improved Player balloting in 2015-16, after averaging a career-high 20.9 points per game in 81 games (all starts) and shooting career highs of .427 from the field and .371 from beyond the three-point line. The Connecticut product also added 5.2 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game. Walker was one of only five players in the NBA to total at least 1,600 points, 400 assists, 300 rebounds, 100 steals and 100 three-pointers on the season. He had a career-high 13 games with 30 points or more and led the NBA in scoring in late and close situations (the last two minutes of the fourth quarter when the game is within four points). Walker led the Hornets to the fifth-best season in Charlotte NBA history (48-34, .585) and the best record in the Eastern Conference from Feb. 1 through the end of the season (25-9, .735).

Walker has spent all five seasons of his career in Charlotte, appearing in 364 games (319 starts) with averages of 17.3 points, 5.3 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. Walker finished the 2015-16 campaign ranked second in Charlotte NBA history in career three-point field goals (552), third in assists (1,946) and fourth in scoring (6.307).

Whiteside has sprained MCL, will be listed as day-to-day

MIAMI (AP) - Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside has a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee, the same injury that has sidelined Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry for the past couple weeks.

Whiteside will be listed as day-to-day, the Heat announced Sunday after the results of an MRI exam were reviewed.

Typically, the recovery time for a mild MCL sprain can be a couple of weeks - though there are examples where players returned within a day or two and examples where it has dragged on for several weeks.

The severity of Whiteside's injury is not known. Curry's was a Grade 1 sprain, which is defined as slight.

The Heat are surely hoping that Whiteside falls into the quicker category. They trail the Toronto Raptors 2-1 in their Eastern Conference semifinal series, which resumes with Game 4 in Miami on Monday night.

Whiteside was hurt with 10:54 left in the second quarter of Game 3 on Saturday, trying to position himself for a rebound.

Toronto's Kyle Lowry was called for a loose-ball foul on the play, after he got caught pulling Whiteside's arm. As Whiteside awkwardly fell backward once he lost his balance, it appeared his right knee was inadvertently hit from the side by the Raptors' Cory Joseph and from the back by Heat teammate Luol Deng.

Whiteside quickly grabbed at the top of his shin bone, just below the kneecap. He was helped up after about 10 seconds, went to the Heat bench and then hobbled to the locker room.

It didn't take long for the Heat to announce that his night was over.

And now the waiting game begins to see if he returns at any point in the series.

"We can't relax at all, honestly," said Toronto's DeMar DeRozan, when asked after Game 3 how the potential loss of Whiteside could affect the remainder of the series. "They've got a lot of veterans on this team who can step up and have been in these type of situations. So we can't relax or think that we're going to have it easier. We still have to take it with the same approach."

If Whiteside is lost, it would mean the Heat have 14 feet of key players sidelined for the rest of this series. All-Star forward Chris Bosh hasn't played since he was diagnosed with another blood clot in February, and after months of trying to find a solution, he and the Heat finally announced last week that his season is officially over.

Whiteside led the NBA in blocked shots this season, averaging 3.7 per game on his way to finishing third in the voting for defensive player of the year. He averaged 14.2 points and 11.8 rebounds in the regular season on 61 percent shooting, then 12 points and 10.9 rebounds in the playoffs on 68 percent shooting.

He becomes a free agent July 1, and the $981,000 salary he made this season will seem like pocket change going forward.

Even with this injury, Whiteside will likely get enormous contract offers this summer - ones that could top $20 million a season, set to put him in the echelon of the NBA's highest-paid players.

Raptors' Valanciunas out rest of series with sprained ankle

TORONTO - The Toronto Raptors announced Sunday center Jonas Valanciunas will miss the remainder of the Eastern Conference semifinal playoff series versus Miami with a sprained right ankle.

Valanciunas sustained the injury during the third quarter of Saturday's Game 3 in Miami. He has averaged 15.0 points, shooting .550 (61-111) from the field, with 12.1 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 28.5 minutes in 10 playoff games this season. In the series versus the Heat, he has averaged 18.3 points on .649 (24-37) percent from the floor, 12.7 rebounds, 1.33 blocks and 33.7 minutes in three contests.

His status will be updated as appropriate.

Hornets' Nicolas Batum to miss Game 4 against Heat with foot injury

CHARLOTTE, NC - Charlotte Hornets small forward Nicolas Batum will miss his second straight game of the Hornets' first-round series against the Miami Heat with a left foot strain.

Batum injured his foot in the fourth quarter of Game 2 at Miami.

"That's just NBA basketball," Hornets head coach Steve Clifford said. "I think our guys are good. We've had more than our share of injuries all year and they've had the right attitude. In this league, you get up in the morning, you say, 'Who's good to play today?' and you play the best you can with that team.

"Obviously we proved we have more than enough to win. We'll have to play well. We wish we had him. But the biggest thing is to play well. We have to be locked in."

The Heat lead the series 2-1.

Stephen Curry questionable for Game 2 with ankle injury

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr called star guard Stephen Curry "questionable" for Game 2 of the team's playoff series against the Houston Rockets.

Curry rolled his ankle in Game 1 in Oakland, California on Saturday.

"As far as [Game 2 on] Monday, I'd say Steph is questionable," Kerr said. "We will see how he responds the next couple of days and go from there."

Curry, however, was optimistic that he would play in Game 2.


"Right now, don't see a scenario where I'll be out," Curry said at the postgame podium.

Mavericks F David Lee out vs. Spurs with foot injury

Lee was replaced early in the second quarter.

MIAMI -- Miami Heat power forward Udonis Haslem will miss the Heat's regular-season finale at Boston on Wednesday night with soreness in his left foot.

Haslem was hurt in the fourth quarter of Miami's win at Detroit on Tuesday.

Haslem has appeared in 37 games for the Heat this season, averaging 1.6 points per game.

Miami begins their playoff campaign for this season this weekend. It is unknown at this time if Haslem will be ready to play by then.

Grizzlies waive Chalmers after he injures right Achilles

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Grizzlies guard Mario Chalmers will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his right Achilles tendon, and Memphis waived the veteran to clear up a much-needed spot on the roster.

The Grizzlies announced both the severity of Chalmers' injury and the roster move Thursday night.

"He has been an important part of our success this season, both coming off the bench and when called upon as a starter," general manager Chris Wallace said in a statement posted on the team website. "But with Mario's season-ending injury and our already depleted roster, it became necessary to free up a roster spot."

Chalmers was hurt with 6:57 left in the third quarter Wednesday night in Boston with the Grizzlies down 64-61 in what wound up a 116-96 loss. He was taken out of the locker room in a wheelchair.

The Grizzlies (38-26) ranked fifth in the Western Conference on Thursday, but the injuries are really starting to add up. Memphis, which hosts New Orleans on Friday night, is expected to use injury exceptions to add help to the roster.

Center Marc Gasol had season-ending surgery to repair a broken navicular bone in his right foot last month. Starting point guard Mike Conley has missed the last two games with a sore right foot, Zach Randolph has been out with a sore right knee in those games, and Chris Andersen -- Gasol's replacement, has been out since dislocating his left shoulder last Sunday.

Jordan Adams has been out since having surgery on his right knee, and Brandan Wright also is recovering from a sore right knee after returning from surgery on the same knee earlier this season.

That left the Grizzlies without seven players and four starters Monday night when they won at Cleveland.

Memphis acquired Chalmers on Nov. 10 from Miami, and he has averaged 10.8 points and 3.8 assists in 55 games with the Grizzlies. He was even better in his seven starts, helping Memphis go 5-2 in those games. He scored 17 points in that win at Cleveland.

Injury Notebook: Pelicans' Gordon re-aggrivates Broken finger; Wizards' Beal sprains pelvis

Gordon re-aggrivates broken finger: New Orleans Pelicans guard Eric Gordon again broke his right ring finger during Saturday night's game against the Utah Jazz.

Gordon left the game in the first half after a collision with Jazz center Rudy Gobert. He headed toward the locker room and did not return with the team when the second half began.

The Pelicans lost the game 106-94.

Beal sprains pelvis: Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal left a game Saturday night against the Indiana Pacers midway through the third quarter with a sprained pelvis.


Beal scored 12 points before taking a nasty fall on a layup attempt with 6:17 remaining in the period.

Bulls' Rose out with right hamstring tenenditis

Udrih to have foot surgery, expected to miss 3 months

MIAMI — The Miami Heat announced today that guard Beno Udrih will undergo surgery for a torn plantar plate in his right foot and is expected to miss three months.

Udrih has appeared in 36 games (five starts) with the Heat this season averaging 4.4 points, 2.5 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 16.3 minutes while shooting 43.4 percent from the field. He was originally acquired by the Heat, along with Jarnell Stokes, via trade with the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Mario Chalmers and James Ennis earlier this season on November 10.
