Recaps of last night's NBA games

CAVALIERS 108, WIZARDS 83

CLEVELAND – LeBron James flirted with a triple-double before sitting out the fourth quarter, Kyrie Irving scored 21 points and the Cleveland Cavaliers avenged a recent ugly loss to Washington by throttling the Wizards 108-83 on Friday night.

The Cavs were blown out at Washington on Sunday, when James watched from the bench and the Wizards built a 30-point lead.

But with James energized after not playing since Monday, and Cleveland using a "small" lineup as forward Kevin Love got the night off, the Cavs snapped Washington's four-game winning streak.

James finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists. Timofey Mozgov scored 14 points, 12 on dunks, for Cleveland.


John Wall scored 17 and Markieff Morris 13 for the Wizards.

NETS 121, NUGGETS 120, OT

DENVER (AP) — Brook Lopez had 20 points and tipped in a basket with .4 seconds left in overtime to lift Brooklyn over Denver.

Nikola Jokic missed badly on a backward desperation shot off an inbound pass as time expired, and the Nets beat the Nuggets for the fifth straight time.

Markel Brown had 21 points to lead the Nets and Bojan Bogdanovic added 17 points. Bogdanovic made 2 of 3 free throws in the final seconds of regulation to force overtime.

Emmanuel Mudiay had 25 points to lead the Nuggets. Gary Harris added 21 points and Kenneth Faried had 17 points.

GRIZZLIES 94, JAZZ 88

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Zach Randolph scored 25 points and grabbed four rebounds in the final minute to lead Memphis.

Randolph, who finished with eight rebounds, was 9 of 18 from the field as Memphis won its third straight and seventh in the last nine. Lance Stephenson, acquired by the Grizzlies at the trade deadline, had 16 points on 8-for-11 shooting, while Mike Conley had 12 points. Mario Chalmers finished with 11 points.

Gordon Hayward led the Jazz with 18 points, including keying Utah's offense in the third quarter. Derrick Favors scored 14 points, shooting 7 of 17. Rudy Gobert had 13 points, 18 rebounds and five blocks. Shelvin Mack had 12 points and eight assists for Utah, which lost its fifth straight, striking another blow to its playoffs hopes.

HORNETS 108, PACERS 101

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Kemba Walker scored 33 points and had 10 assists, Nicolas Batum added 31 points and Charlotte got its ninth win in the last 11 games.

Walker shot 9 of 17 from the field and made all 11 free throws for his 10th 30-point game of the season as the Hornets swept the three-game series with the Pacers for the first time in franchise history. Walker has averaged 29.6 points during Charlotte's current three-game win streak.

Al Jefferson chipped in with 13 points for Charlotte, which shot 48.1 percent for the game to improve to 21-9 at home.

Paul George scored 35 points and Ian Mahinmi had 10 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Pacers.

BUCKS 116, TIMBERWOLVES 101

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Giannis Antetokounmpo had 27 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds, and Khris Middleton scored 32 points as Milwaukee beat Minnesota.

Antetokounmpo just missed his third triple-double in six games. Playing at a high level since the All-Star break, he had the first two of his career on Feb. 22 against the Los Angeles Lakers and Feb. 29 against the Houston Rockets. Antetokounmpo, whose 12 assists were a career high, made 9 of 17 shots and 9 of 10 free throws while playing point forward most of the game.

Middleton finished 11 of 16 shooting, including 8 of 9 on 3-pointers, the most 3s by a Bucks player since Carlos Delfino made eight on March 18, 2011, in a 110-95 win over New Jersey.

Karl-Anthony Towns scored 21 points for Minnesota, but only six after the first quarter.

RAPTORS 117, TRAIL BLAZERS 115

TORONTO (AP) — DeMar DeRozan had 38 points, Kyle Lowry added 28 and Toronto overcame a huge game from Damian Lillard to beat Portland for its franchise-record 12th straight home win.

Lillard scored 50 points, one shy of his career high set last month in a 137-105 win over Golden State.

DeRozan went 24 for 25 from the free-throw line, both career highs. Jonas Valanciunas had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Toronto.

Portland lost the season series to Toronto for the first time since 1996-97. C.J. McCollum added 24 for Portland, but he and Lillard were the only Blazers in double figures.

CELTICS 105, KNICKS 104

BOSTON (AP) — Isaiah Thomas had 32 points and eight assists, Avery Bradley hit a go-ahead layup with 17.7 seconds left and Boston Celtics won its 13th straight at home.

Evan Turner had 21 points and eight rebounds for the Celtics, and Jae Crowder finished with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Boston trailed by eight points in the fourth quarter but used a series of mini-runs to eventually take the lead for good on the driving layup by Bradley.

Carmelo Anthony had a chance to win the game in the closing seconds but badly missed a 3-pointer off the backboard as time expired.

Anthony had 30 points and seven rebounds. Arron Afflalo added 17 points and Kristaps Porzingis finished with 15 points for the Knicks, who lost their third straight.

HEAT 112, 76ERS 102

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Hassan Whiteside had 19 points and 19 rebounds, Dwyane Wade scored 21 points and Miami won its fourth straight.

Goran Dragic added 15 points and 11 assists for the Heat. Luol Deng scored 13 points and Joe Johnson, Amar'e Stoudemire and Gerald Green had 12 points each.

Ish Smith had 26 points, eight rebounds and five assists and Robert Covington scored 25 points for the depleted 76ers, who were missing several key players. Philadelphia has lost 11 straight.

The Heat improved to 7-2 since losing Chris Bosh to a blood clot in his calf. They are 4-0 since signing Johnson after the seven-time All-Star agreed to a buyout with Brooklyn.

SUNS 102, MAGIC 84

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Alex Len scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, and Phoenix held Orlando scoreless for a 7 1/2-minute stretch to snap a 17-game road losing streak.

Devin Booker and Ronnie Price added 14 points each for the Suns, who got their first road victory since Dec. 7 at Chicago. The streak tied a franchise record.

Elfrid Payton had 19 pints and 11 assists for Orlando, which shot 35 percent against the NBA's bottom-ranked team in defensive field-goal percentage.

HAWKS 106, LAKERS 77

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Reserve Dennis Schroder led six players in double figures with 16 points and Atlanta completed its first season sweep of the Lakers since 1973-74.

Kyle Korver made all four of his 3-pointers for 15 points and newcomer Kris Humphries added 14 points and eight rebounds off the bench. The Hawks have held four straight opponents under 40-percent shooting for the first time since Dec. 7-20, 1996.

Julius Randle had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers, who have lost two in a row and 10 of 11. D'Angelo Russell's streak of four straight games with 20 or more points ended when he finished with seven points on 3-of-16 shooting.

Los Angeles fans began chanting Kobe Bryant's name in the closing minutes, but he was nursing a sore right shoulder and wasn't around.

Recaps of last night's NBA games

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Kawhi Leonard capped a 30-point, 11-rebound performance with a huge 3-pointer in the final minute as the San Antonio Spurs extended their winning streak to seven games with a 94-86 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday night.

LaMarcus Aldridge had 26 points and Danny Green scored 11 for the Spurs, who trailed 86-82 before closing the game on a 12-0 run during the final 3:10.

Leonard was 12-of-22 shooting, including 6 for 10 from 3-point range.

The Pelicans missed their last six shots and allowed the Spurs to grab a pair of critical offensive rebounds that led to five second-chance points during San Antonio's game-ending run.

HEAT 108, SUNS 92

MIAMI, Florida, (AP) — Dwyane Wade scored 27 points, Goran Dragic added 25 against his former team and Miami never trailed on the way to beating Phoenix for its third straight victory.

Luol Deng scored 12 and Hassan Whiteside grabbed 11 rebounds for Miami, which led by as many as 21 in the first half.

Rookie guard Devin Booker kept the Suns in the game, scoring 15 of his 34 points in the fourth quarter. Alex Len had 12 points and 13 rebounds for Phoenix, which tied a club record by losing its 17th consecutive road game. The Suns have dropped 30 of 33 overall.

KINGS 104, MAVERICKS 101

DALLAS, Texas, (AP) — Rajon Rondo had 18 points and 12 assists in his first game in Dallas since an ugly split with the Mavericks last season as Sacramento ended a 22-game regular-season losing streak on his old home floor.

Booed almost every time he touched the ball, Rondo was the steady hand the Kings needed late. He missed a January loss at Dallas when Sacramento blew a lead in double overtime to keep alive the Mavericks' longest home winning streak against one opponent.

DeMarcus Cousins had 22 points and 13 rebounds as the Kings snapped a four-game losing streak with just their fifth win in the past 17 games.

Chandler Parsons scored 28 to lead the Mavericks, who had a three-game winning streak snapped in the finale of a six-game homestand, their longest of the season.

SPURS 97, PISTONS 81

SAN ANTONIO (AP) Kawhi Leonard scored 27 points and LaMarcus Aldridge added 23 as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Detroit Pistons 97-81 on Wednesday night to clinch their 19th straight playoff berth.

San Antonio (51-9) won its 29th straight home game to open the season in its first game following a monthlong road trip brought on by the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

San Antonio joins Golden State as the only teams to clinch spots in the postseason.

Leonard and Aldridge excelled against a Detroit team thinned by injuries to forwards Anthony Tolliver and Stanley Johnson. Aldridge added 10 rebounds and Leonard had six rebounds and five assists for San Antonio, which has won six straight.

Detroit center Andre Drummond had nine points and 14 rebounds, ending his career-high and the league's season-high of consecutive double-doubles at 13 straight.

CLIPPERS 103, THUNDER 98

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Oklahoma City Thunder took the court hours after the death of part-owner Aubrey McClendon and squandered a 22-point lead in a loss to theLos Angeles Clippers.

Chris Paul had 21 points and 13 assists for Los Angeles, and DeAndre Jordan had 20 points and 18 rebounds. The Clippers ended the game with a stunning 26-5 run after trailing by 16 with 7:30 left. The Thunder had only one field goal during that stretch.

It was the largest comeback victory of the season for the Clippers, who reached the 40-win mark for the fifth year in a row.

Kevin Durant scored 30 points and Russell Westbrook had 24 points and 12 assists for Oklahoma City in the first of three meetings this month between the Western Conference contenders.

McClendon, 56, was killed slamming his sport utility vehicle into a concrete bridge embankment in Oklahoma City shortly after 9 a.m. local time. The crash occurred one day after he was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly conspiring to rig bids to buy oil and natural gas leases in northwest Oklahoma while he was CEO of Chesapeake Energy Corp.

In a statement released Tuesday after the indictment, McClendon denied violating antitrust laws and said he would fight to prove his innocence and clear his name.

It was the second deadly crash connected to the Thunder organization in three weeks. On Feb. 10, Ingrid Williams, the 44-year-old wife of assistant coach Monty Williams, was killed in a head-on collision just outside Oklahoma City.

ROCKETS 100, PELICANS 95

HOUSTON (AP) - James Harden had 39 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists to help Houston overcome miserable shooting in a victory over New Orleans.

The Rockets went 3 of 34 on 3-point attempts and committed 21 turnovers but were able to rally past New Orleans thanks to an off night from Pelicans star Anthony Davis.

With their horrendous shooting performance, Houston became the first team in NBA history to make fewer than four 3s on 30 or more attempts.

But on the 34th attempt, Houston point guard Patrick Beverley delivered the most important shot of the game, a 3-pointer from the corner that gave the Rockets a lead with less than a minute remaining.

NUGGETS 117, LAKERS 107

DENVER (AP) - D.J. Augustin scored 22 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter to lead six Denver players in double figures, and theNuggets beat Los Angeles in Kobe Bryant's final game at the Pepsi Center.

Emmanuel Mudiay added 22 points and the Nuggets used a 10-0 run midway through the final quarter to gain some separation.

Bryant finished with five points and didn't play in the second half because of a sore right shoulder. Fans kept chanting ''We want Kobe'' as he sat on the bench with a wrap on his shoulder.

The Nuggets honored Bryant with a video tribute during a timeout in the first quarter.

RAPTORS 104, JAZZ 94

TORONTO (AP) - Kyle Lowry scored 32 points, DeMar DeRozan added 31 andToronto beat Utah for a club-record 11th straight home win.

Lowry, who had a career-high 43 points in a victory over Cleveland on Friday night before being rested Sunday in a loss at Detroit, added five assists and four rebounds. Toronto (40-19) led the entire second half on the way to its fifth win in six games.

The Jazz (28-32) were led by Gordon Hayward, who had 26 points, six assists and three rebounds. Derrick Favors added 15 points and seven rebounds for Utah, which has lost four straight and seven of 11.

There were 11 lead changes and nine ties in the first half before the Raptors took control.

MAGIC 102, BULLS 89

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Nikola Vucevic scored 24 points, rookie Mario Hezonja added a career-high 21, and Orlando beat Chicago.

Victor Oladipo scored 17 points and Aaron Gordon had 13 points and 15 rebounds as Orlando coasted to an easy win. Elfrid Payton had nine points and 12 assists.

Derrick Rose led Chicago with 16 points, all in the first half. Pau Gasol had 12 points and Doug McDermott was the only other Bulls player in double figures with 11.

Both teams were on the second game of back-to-backs and it looked it. Orlando hit only 40.2 percent, while Chicago shot just 38.4 percent from the field.

WIZARDS 104, TIMBERWOLVES 98

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Bradley Beal scored 26 points and Alan Anderson added 18 to lead Washington to a fourth straight victory.

John Wall had 14 points and 12 assists, and Beal and Anderson led a Wizards bench that outscored Minnesota's second unit 64-18. Washington shot 50 percent, hit 11 of 29 3-pointers and scored 50 points in the paint to overcome 17 turnovers.

Ricky Rubio had 22 points and six rebounds, Zach LaVine scored 21 and Karl-Anthony Towns had 14 points, 15 rebounds and five assists for the Timberwolves. Minnesota made 29 free throws to just nine for Washington, but 19 turnovers did in the young Wolves.

CELTICS 116, TRAIL BLAZERS 93

BOSTON (AP) - Isaiah Thomas had 30 points to lead Boston to a fourth straight win.

Avery Bradley added 17 points as the Celtics won their 12th straight at home. The streak ties Boston's longest since it won 13 straight at the Garden during the 2008-09 season.

Six Boston players reached double figures and the Celtics also outscored Portland 60-34 in the paint, while committing just five turnovers.

Damian Lillard led Portland with 20 points. C.J. McCollum added 17.

OAKLAND, California (AP) — Draymond Green hit an off-balance 3-pointer as the shot clock expired with 40.2 seconds remaining in overtime, and the Golden State Warriors escaped with a 109-105 win against the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night while Stephen Curry watched in street clothes with an injured ankle.

Andrew Bogut saved the ball from going out of bounds, and then Green got the shot off just in time while avoiding Kent Bazemore's diving steal attempt.

Klay Thompson made a go-ahead 3 with 2:54 left and another big basket at the 11.4-second mark. He finished with 26 points. The Warriors won their second straight overtime game and got a franchise-best 43rd straight regular-season home victory and 25th in a row this season.

Golden State (54-5) can tie the Bulls' 44-game unbeaten mark at home from March 30, 1995, to April 4, 1996, when the Warriors host Oklahoma City on Thursday.

HEAT 129, BULLS 111

MIAMI (AP) — Hassan Whiteside scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and Miami set a franchise record by shooting 67.5 percent while rolling past Chicago.

Joe Johnson added 24 points in his Miami home debut. The previous Heat record for shooting percentage in a regular-season game was 63.4 percent on Dec. 16, 2013, against Utah.

Chicago was within 108-102 with 5:14 left, before Miami finished on a 21-9 run. No team had shot better in an NBA game this season than the 61.8 percent posted by San Antonio against Philadelphia on Dec. 7.

Derrick Rose returned from a three-game absence because of injury and scored 17 points for Chicago, which lost for the 17th time in 25 games and fell to the No. 9 spot in the Eastern Conference race. Pau Gasol had 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

TRAIL BLAZERS 104, KNICKS 85

NEW YORK (AP) — Damian Lillard scored 30 points, CJ McCollum had 21 of his 25 in the second half and Portland earned its sixth straight road victory.

The Blazers followed a fantastic February with a blistering start to March, winning for the 18th time in their last 22 games.

Lillard reached the 30-point mark for the eighth time in nine games and had 14, nearly half of them, in the final 4:25 of the first half.

Carmelo Anthony had 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Knicks, so hopeless in their 15th loss in 18 games that fans spent much of the fourth quarter chanting for Jimmer Fredette, who is nearing the end of his 10-day contract. The former college player of the year finally got in for the final 3:13 and finished with four points.

HORNETS 126, SUNS 92

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Kemba Walker scored 26 points, leading the Hornets to the runaway win.

Al Jefferson had 19 points and seven rebounds for Charlotte, which has won nine of 12. Nicolas Batum and reserve Jeremy Lamb scored 15 points apiece.

The Suns had five players score in double figures in their 16th consecutive road loss. Alex Len had 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Mirza Teletovic scored 17 points.

Charlotte led by 26 points at halftime and opened its biggest lead at 115-72 on Troy Daniels' 3-pointer with 7:56 left in the fourth quarter.

MAVERICKS 121, MAGIC 108

DALLAS (AP) — Wesley Matthews scored 21 points, and Dallas beat Orlando for its third straight win.

The Mavericks made a season-high 56 percent of their field goal attempts (43 for 77).

Zaza Pachulia had his 24th double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Dirk Nowitzki scored 19 points, and Chandler Parsons and J.J. Barea each had 17.

Ersan Ilyasova scored 22 points for the Magic. Nikola Vucevic had 18, all in the first half, and Elfrid Payton and Dewayne Dedmon added 12 apiece.

LAKERS 107, NETS 101

LOS ANGELES (AP) — D'Angelo Russell scored 39 points and hit two of his eight 3-pointers in the final minute to lead Los Angeles over Brooklyn.

While Kobe Bryant sat out with a sore right shoulder, the Lakers snapped their eight-game losing streak with a spectacular game from the 20-year-old Russell, who scored 16 points in the fourth quarter and went 14 for 21 from the field.

Brook Lopez had 23 points before fouling out with 2:43 left for the Nets, who fell to 2-3 on their nine-game trip with back-to-back losses at Staples Center.

Russell hit a 3-pointer with 53 seconds left and another with 30 seconds to play, capping a spectacular night for the No. 2 overall pick in the draft. His 39 points were the most by a rookie this season.

Los Angeles hung on for its first victory since Feb. 4 and just its fourth win in 26 games since Jan. 3.

Clippers unveil new mascot

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Clippers have unveiled a new mascot: Chuck the California Condor.

The animal made its debut as the team's mascot at halftime of Monday night's game against the Brooklyn Nets.


Chuck is gray with a pink head, a large blue nose, wears a Clippers cape and has a red-and-white helmet that he removes.


Chris Paul and Jamal Crawford were supportive of the mascot, believing it will get kids more involved.


"I know my son will love it," Crawford said. "I hope my daughter's not scared."

THUNDER 131, KINGS 116

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. – Russell Westbrook had 20 points, 15 rebounds and 13 assists, leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 131-116 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Monday night.

Kevin Durant finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds and six assists as Oklahoma City bounced back from a difficult stretch. The Thunder had dropped four of five, including a heartbreaking overtime loss to Golden State on Saturday night.

Oklahoma City shot 57 percent (47 for 82) from the field, including a 14-for-34 performance from 3-point range. Enes Kanter scored 23 points on 11-for-11 shooting.

Sacramento has lost three in a row heading into a four-game road trip. DeMarcus Cousins had 35 points and 12 rebounds, and Rajon Rondo finished with 11 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jamal Crawford scored 26 points, and the Clippers beat the Nets to win their second in a row after alternating wins and losses in their previous six games.

Chris Paul had 23 points and 12 assists for Los Angeles, and J.J. Redick scored 19 points.

Brook Lopez had 25 points and 10 rebounds for Brooklyn, which was going for its first three-game winning streak of the season. Instead, the Nets lost their fifth straight to the Clippers at Staples Center.

CLEVELAND (AP) — LeBron James scored 33 points after sitting out a game and Tristan Thompson made two huge plays in the final minute, leading Cleveland to the victory.

James was rested on Sunday by coach Tyronn Lue and the Cavs were lethargic in a 113-99 loss at Washington. But with James back on the floor, Cleveland played with much more energy and again looked like a team with NBA championship aspirations.

Matthew Dellavedova hit a tying 3-pointer for the Cavs with 1:13 left before Thompson made it 96-94 with a layup. Thompson then blocked a shot by Indiana's George Hill with 18 seconds left.

Monta Ellis scored 28 points and Paul George had 23 for the Pacers, who lost their third straight but played much better than in a loss to Portland on Sunday.

WIZARDS 116, 76ERS 108

WASHINGTON (AP) — John Wall scored 16 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter, helping the Wizards rally for the win.

Wall and Marcin Gortat combined for 14 points during a 16-0 fourth-quarter run in Washington's sixth victory in eight games since the All-Star break. Gortat finished with 18 points and a career-high 20 rebounds.

Markieff Morris added 16 points and 13 rebounds in his first double-double with Washington.

Philadelphia played without rookie center Jahlil Okafor, who was sidelined by a right shin bruise. But the 76ers had six players score in double figures, led by Ish Smith's 25 points.

The 76ers were outrebounded 53-32 in their ninth straight loss.

BUCKS 128, ROCKETS 121

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Giannis Antetokounmpo recorded his second career triple-double with 18 points, 17 rebounds and 11 assists, and the Bucks outlasted the Rockets.

Jabari Parker scored a career-high 36 points for Milwaukee, and Khris Middleton had 30 points.

The Bucks nearly blew a late 13-point lead after the Rockets put together a 9-0 run. After forcing a turnover, Houston's Trevor Ariza was whistled for a 5-second violation on inbounds pass with 20 seconds remaining.

Dwight Howard had 30 points and 13 rebounds for Houston, while Ariza had 20 points and 11 assists.

DENVER (AP) — Zach Randolph scored 22 points, leading Memphis to the road win.

Matt Barnes had 16 points for the Grizzlies, and Mario Chalmers finished with 15. Memphis won its fifth in a row against the Nuggets, including three meetings this season.

Kenneth Faried had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Nuggets, who have lost five of six. Gary Harris added 15 points.

Newly signed JaKarr Sampson started in place of injured forward Danilo Gallinari, the Nuggets' leading scorer who is sidelined indefinitely after severely spraining his right ankle Friday at Dallas. Sampson finished with seven points.
