Kevin Durant agrees to sign with Golden State Warriors

"Pro Court Report" Staff Report

Kevin Durant on Monday agreed to sign with the Golden State Warriors, the team that won an NBA-record 73 games last season.

Durant will sign a two-year, $54.3 million contract with a player option after the first year.

"I am also at a point in my life where it is of equal importance to find an opportunity that encourages my evolution as a man: moving out of my comfort zone to a new city and community which offers the greatest potential for my contribution and personal growth," Durant wrote on The Players Tribune. "With this in mind, I have decided that I am going to join the Golden State Warriors."

In his entire NBA career to this point, Durant averages 27.4 points per game. Only 51 players have averaged at least 27.4 points in a single season. Durant has done it six times, trailing only Michael Jordan (11), Oscar Robertson (8), Kobe Bryant and Wilt Chamberlain (7 each). Durant has the third highest career scoring average in NBA history behind Jordan and Chamberlain.

Durant was considered the top free agent on the market and now joins a team that is coming off back-to-back NBA Finals and a 73-win regular season.

The Warriors came back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Thunder in seven games in the Western Conference finals, then fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals after leading 3-1.
